How They Ran
Maiden To King Mart. A'exillum was the first out from the tapes in the Maiden closely attended hy King Mart. The latter took command after going a furlong and led at the turn from A’exillum, Thrift, Marica and Service. King Mart was ■first into the straight, and, stalling off a challenge from Service, won by three-quarters of a length, with Thrift two lengths away, third. AVar AVings was fourth, then came Yexillum, Double Mint and Marica. Waicullus Surprises. From a quick despatch in the Stewards’ Euanui took up thn running from AVaicullus, Civility, Hipo and Lady Limond, with Damaris tailing the field. Into the back AVaicullus had been brought up alongside Euanui, with Civilly, and Lady Limond going well, and Damaris and Hnllownoon at the back of the field. The order was unchanged into the straight whore AVaicullus and Euanui still had charge from Lady Limond, Civility, with Tioga and Damaris putting on forward efforts. AVaicullus got ahead in the run homo and maintained his advantayc to win from Lady Limond by a neck, Tiega getting up into third berth half a nock away. Then came Euanui, Civility, and Damaris, with Hipo, Hallo wnoon and Eouex at the rear. Waicullus was always hold at it by his jockey, T. Green, and responded sufficiently when a final effort was required of him, heating a hot favourite in Lady Limond. He had quite enough in hand at the end, and never looked like being beaten over the last bit. Tiega made a good effort from well back, and may have had more say in matters if ho had been better placed at the straight entrance. Lady Limond was always well placed. Damaris impressed by his run early in the straight, and Civility only needs the race to do better. Euanui lacked a finishing touch. Elysianor Continues. Nucleus and Kilbuni were first out from the barrier in the Hurdles but Elysianor quickly replaced Kilburn who dropped back to last at the bond. Elysianor went to the front coming into the straight for the first time, followed by Nucleus, Matu, Pink Eose and Kilburn. Nucleus forged ahead along the straight, but going into the back Elysianor again displaced the loader, and Kilburn moved up to third. Along t’ back Elysianor made a break and Kii. .rn came up with Nucleus. Elysianor led into the straight from Nucleus and Kilburn, and in the run to the post was not troubled to win by three lengths from Kilburn, who was pulling up, Matu third a length and a-half away, then the favourite and Pink Eose. Kilburn bad no difficulty in disposing of Nucleus the same way as he did at Foxton both days, but Elysianor had too big a break at the entrance of the short straight to make it possible for the Kilhronoy gelding to make up leeway. Nucleus had had enough of it when the last hurdle was negotiated. Discourse Breaks Through. Capitulation got a shade the worst of a good start in the A'ictory Handicap, and the order past the. stands was AVhisognc, Some Lad, So vena, Eoyal Acre, Ladykillcr, Capitulation, Barryauda and Discourse last. Going into the back Some Lad took up the running from AAliisognc Eqyal Acre, Ladykiller and Capitulation, with Discourse still lulling. Capitulation ran up to second berth on this turn and actually led Some Lad into the straight from Barryamla, Royal Aero, Discourse, Ladykillcr, Sovcua and AVhisognc. Once faced for the judge the field lined up with Discourse getting a lucky run
effort too soon, and Discourse wont on to win by a bare neek from Royal Acre, who was a nose in front of Ladykiller. Then came Capitulation, Barryanda, Some Lad, So vena and Whisogno well back. The winner was never well placed, tailing the field to the homo bend. When they straightened up, however, young Robinson, who won certain repute at Trcntham by his astonishing victory on Lady Limond, took a lucky opening, and the Gasbag filly responded in capital fashion. Capitulation made too early an effort. Koyal Acre was always well placed. Sovena was in and out the whole journey and did not appear to bo very well handled. Some Lad registered a creditable effort, and may bo saluting the judge before long. He was excellently handled by the Awiapuni apprentice, E. G. Stratton. • Mandane’s Cup, On the machine Edevt Hall was very little bettor backed than Yoma in the Cup race. Joy Bird shot out from the barrier to lead Toma, Mint Loaf, Eden Hall and Atarcria into tho back, Mandano and Novar tailing the bunch, Joy Bird continued to make the pace along the back, where David Garrick moved up to second, and Eden Hall and Atarcria improved. Yoma had dropped back to last except for Novar. Henna was moving up fast on the bend. Joy Bird led into the straight the first time, and thence past tho stands Allowed by Atarcria, Eden Hall, Mint Leaf and David Garrick, who slipped back down the straight. Novar, Yoma, Mandane and Henna formed the rear. Joy Bird continued to bowl along in front along the back stretch, while Novar and Mandane began to improve. Atarcria fell away at the mile and a-half, and Mint Leaf also dropped out. Mandano was on Joy Bird’s heels into the straight, followed by Eden Hall on the rails. Mandane prevailed over the last bit to beat Eden Hall by a head, Joy Bird being a nose away, third. Then came Yoma, Novar, Atareria, Henna, David Garrick and Mint Leaf, the last two well back. The favourite was always well placed on the rails, and at one stage in tho straight looked as though ho would win, but Mandane had too much in reserve. Mandane ran an excellent race gradually moving up over tho second lap. Joy Bird tried to win from end to end, and just failed. Atareria ran well for a mile and a-half, and Novar improved considerably over tho concluding stages, A Favourite Wins. Footpad bolted before the Juvenile Race, doing half a lap, but was brought hack. Tea Miss delayed the starter by constant rearing. When the tapes wore released, Freehold showed out from Banket, Mooregas, Lady . Quex, Oalapat, Gold Bag, Footpad, Flying Hero Timo Will Tell, Tea Miss and Egeria. Mooregas found the early pace too hot and dropped back badly going round the bend, where Banket temporarily displaced Freehold. Banket led into the straight followed by Freehold. Calapat, Flying Hero, Lady Quex and Mooregas, with Tea Miss improving. In the run homo Freehold had no difficulty in coming away to win by three-quarters of a length from Banket. who was half a length ahead of Flying Hero. Calapat was fourth, then came Lady Quex, Tea Miss, Mooregas, Egeria and Footpad. Another Favourite. The tapes were quickly released in tho Fetre Hack, White Ringlet showing the way to Tho Raider, Polydeotes, Dimmer, King Midas and Helotis. Going to the turn White Ringlet was still in front while Le Champ ran up into tho straight from The Raidery Polydectes, Le Champ, Helotis, Dimmer, Paul Lucerne and King Midas. In the run to the post Polydectes camo away, and stalling oIS a late challenge by Dimmer who came bumping through very fast won with case by one length and a-half, Dimmer being a neck ahead of White Ringlet, Then came The Raider, Paul Lucerne, Lc Champ, King Midas, and the rest scattered well back. The winner was nicely placed the whole journey. White Ringlet just failed to tako tho second stake, Dimmer making an exceptionally fast burst through. Limosa and Kawhakina took things easy, never improving. Paul Lucerne left his effort till too late, being practically out of it when the straight was reached. Flying To Paganelli, There was no tarrying at the start of the Flying Handicap, High Finance going out quidJly to lead Paganelli, Shirley, Covent Garden, Limited, Kiosk Oration and Tip Tree. High Finance further improved along tb9t back, but Paganelli was up with him again at, the turn, where Kiosk also was moving forward. High Finance led into the straight from Paganelli, Shirley, Kiosk, Oration, Limited, Tip Tree and Coven t Garden, who had fallen back quickly. Once on the homo stretch Paganelli passed High Finance, who was failing, going on to win by a length and a-haif from Shirley, who was a length ahead of Limited. Then came Oration, Kiosk, High Finance, Tip Tree and Covent Garden. Paganelli w r as never further back than second, and won with ease. Shirley made a big bid at the cud, and showed a glimpse of her last autumn ’s_ form. High Finance quickly faded out over the last bit, and Kiosk found tho pace too hot on when he attempted to get up to (he loaders. Oration ran a very creditable race. Nothing, however, had a show with the winner, who had lots left in him if it had been
