SERIOUS MOTOR SMASH AX CAMBRIDGE
ONE PASSENGER INJURED. (Per Press Association). CAMBRIDGE, Dec. 23. . At about 7.30 o’clock last night a serious motor collision took place between a service ear bound for Rotorua and Mr. Alfred Smith’s ear conveying newspapers. Both vehicles are on the Hamilton-Rotorua service. The impact -occurred at a sharp bend on the Kapiro road at the Cambridge borough boundary. Mr. James M. Mooney, an employee of the Forestry Department at Tuai, Wairoa,- who was seated in the rear seat of tho service car sustained two broken ribs through a broken hood support striking him. All tho other passengers escaped injury, though they sustained severe shock. Both vehicles met in a side-on collision, the whole right side of both ears being badly dented, while the top gear of the service car Was carried away. Tho driver of Mr. Smith’s car attempted to swerve off tho oad, but waa too late to avoid a collision. He had a miraculous escape from crashing into t telegraph post, but finally collided with a fence.
Both cars were travelling at a smart speed at the time and it is remarkable that they did not capsize. After the .collision they wore able to bo driven away under their own power.
