AUSTRALIA OBJECTS TO N.Z. SCRUB RAMS

MELBOURNE, Dec. 15. An application was made to the Tariff Board on behalf of the Australian Society of Breeders of British Sheep, for the imposition of a tariff on rams mor e than three years old not registered by an approved society or stud. Mr James Aitken stated that it had become the practice for Neyv Zealand sheep dealers, not the breeders themselves, to export scrub rams, the residue of sheep sales, to Australia. Profits ranging up to £IOOO had been made from one shipment alone. These inferior animals and culls wer e sent to Australia jj.nd the progeny of these rams were having an I'fiimical effect on flocks, and a serious state of affairs would arise in the wool and frozen meat trade. A tariff of two guineas per head was suggested. . The inquiry was adjourned.
