"Mr and Mrs. Penguin to see you!” announced the maid one day when the Twins and the Family were playing in the Nursery. ‘ ‘ Pretty' sort of visitors, I must say,” remarked Spot, as Peter and Pam greeted their strange guests. "Fancy wearing evening coats in the daytime!” "Hope they won't slay long,” murmured Smut, "I expect they like milk!” ("Or scraps,” mattered Micky). "You must make yourselves quite at homo,” Petcr'was saying hospitably ,and: "We awfully pleased to see you,” Pam was murmuring ("Wonder if they bite, Pete.?”). "Arc they birds or, beasts? ” queried Micky anxiously.
Spot and Smut made up their minds tc “do the correct thing” by their unwelcome visitors, and so they politely offered them a drink of water. “After you, my dear sir,” said Mr. Penguin courteously. “Oh, no! I wouldn't dream of it, Mr. Penguin. Wo know how to treat visitors. By the way, do you like bones?” “BonCSr—what arc bones??' enquired Mrs. Penguin, “I have never met them!” (“That’s a relief,” smiled Spot in an undertone). ‘‘Care for milk?” asked Smut, “Milk—what is milk?” queried Mrs. Penguin _ again. (“Hurrah!” Smut smiled to herself). “Very vulgar people,” whispered Mrs. Penguin to her husband. “So noisy.”
