CONTROL OF KOWHAI PARK

disbandment of committee. Formal notice of the disbandment of the Kowhai Park committee was received at last night’s meeting of the Feilding Borough Council when the Mayor (Sir. E. Fair) expressed hi s regret that the committee had decided on (his action. He felt the Council should record its appreciation of the committee’s work and moved accordingly. Cr. C. E. Taylor endorsed the Mayor's remarks and the resolution Was 1 carried unanimously. A deputation from the Feilding Cricket Association then waited upon the Council with regard to control this year. Mr. E, H. Lange recalled that the Association’s original proposals had been unacceptable to the Council and they now offered the following alternative: (1) That the Cricket Association bo given control of the Park on terms similar to (hose granted the Kowhai Park committee; (2) That the borough grant of £SO per annum be increased. This was absolutely necessary to enable the Association to carry on; (3) That the borough grant financial assistance for the most urgent work of drainage as the turf was deteriorating; (4) That the borough lend assistance for the purpose of erecting a pavilion for the use of cricketers and other bodies using the Park.

In reply to Or. Taylor. Mr. “W. H. McLean explained that the drainage scheme proposed •would involve an expenditure of £IOO. As to the increased prrant, the present expenses with the Council grant of £SO, entailed a loss of £lO per annum. Cr. ,Taylor considered that in view of the fact that the Park was .Government property, and that the Cricket Association ami the Council had expended in round figures £2OOO, the Council should associate itself with the Cricket Association in. a request fo r a pavilion. The occasion was appropriate to approach the Government for assistance.

Tho whole question wa s referred to the Reserves Committee for a rpeort.
