MOTOR CYCLIST FINED

RUN DOWN LADY CYCLIST. Arising out of an accident which occurred on Kimbolton Road on August 17, when Percy Laggard, who was riding a motor-cycle, collided with a lady cyclist named Mildred Barnett, .laggard pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Sir. J. L. Stout, S.M., to driving Ins motor cycle at a dangerous speed. Sergeant Cahill explained that on the evening of August 17 Miss Barnett was cycling up Kimbolton Road when sho was run down by defendant. Miss Barnett was rcndci-od unconscious and sustained injuries to her head and

ankle. Tbo defendant’s excuse was that he did not soo Miss Barnett. For defendant Mr. J. Graham said defendant, who was travelling in the same direction, did not see Miss Barnett. Counsel submitted that in the ease of acetylene lamps the red reflectors carried on bicycles did not respond as in the case of electric lights.

The Magistrate: "I don’t think they arc very much good even then,” ’ Counsel pointed out that defendant had done everything possible for the lady. It was an unfortunate accident and it was admitted that defendant should have seen Miss Barnett.

A fine of £3 and costs was imposed
