Bennett; J’s.P., at the Court yesterday, imposed a fine of £25 upon Angus George Gifkins, a 22-year-old farm labourer, of Pohatigina, for being drunk while in charge of a car, The default was fixed at two months in gaol. Gifkin was driving the car that collided with another on the main road at Newbury on Wednesday evening, the result of which was that his own vehicle lost two front wheels and the other, one wheel. Accused had two passengers with him while there were also passengers in the other car. “What have you got to say for yourself ?” asked the Bench. Accused: “I came in for the Show met a few friends and had a few drinks.” Tho Bench: “Those cases are far too frequent.” The Justices also decided to suspend accused's license for twelve months.
