MEETING OP COMMITTEE At 'last evening’s meeting of the; College Street school committee there were present Messrs S. W. Olllver (in the chair), W. F. Cutler, T. Inglis, F. H. Tucker, J, R. Wood and P. W. Barnard (secretary). V‘ v -• The Wanganui Education Board wrote in regard to the condition of the school building. The Board’s architect, it was stated, has found the structure to be in a fairly sound condition, although it was 34 years bid. The floors, it was admitted, were not In the best condition. The architect could not at present recommend the Board to consider the erection of a new building but tne necessary attention would be given the floors of 1 the class rooms. In his monthly report the headmaster stated that the floors of the classrooms had been repaired. Headmaster’s Report, The headmaster (Mr. W. A. Swlnbourn) reported that the roll yesterday was 566, and the average attendance for the week 517, For the quarter the average was only 507, on account of mumps, chicken-pox and Influenza being prevalent These epidemics, however, were abating slightly. “I regret to hava to announce,” went on the report, "that Hiss Govan who has been on our staff for 20 years, is severing her connection with the school, she having accepted the position 1 of infant mistress at Central school. She has done splendid work for the children of this school and district. Her departure will be a very serious loss to the school." Miss Mowbray, as senior lady on, the staff, was to take charge of the infants. , An offer of a gift of pictures for the Infant department from Messrs G. H. Bennett and Co. was acknowledged with thanks. It was suggested that some of the timber on hand shoud be used to add a tool shed to the end of the bicycle shed. A number of sash cords, also needed replacing.
