The New Zealander should be able to give a good account of himself with 8 stone 6 lbs. 1 The death of jockey B. • Copestake at Whangarel came as a great shock to all racing patrons, and his relatives will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. The late hurdle rider had a fine record and such courageous jockeys take a-. lot of replacing. ,His mount at the time of the accident, Karamu, was going very freely in the lead when he fell. \ / ’.j... Commenting on Haze's engagements at Easter, “Phaeton” in the “New Zealand Herald’ 'says;—“From the fact of Haze having been paid up for In both the Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps, this would appear to point to the Demosthenes gelding having satisfied his trainer that he has a good race concealed about him. Well, if Haze should succeed in capturing the big double at Riccarton, it would be a feat that would lead to many paragraphs of a laudatory character, but as he figures at the minimum (7.0) in the Great Autumn Handicap, it would not be a very remarkable performance except for the fact that the bay gelding has so far only succeeded in winning one race." • Paleta, who is reported to be progressing very favourably across the Tasman is engaged at Warwick Farm on Saturday. ■ Te Mononui Is reported to have been sore when- racing at Whangarel last week. ■ ... The “Times” to-morrow morning will contain the acceptances for the handicap events at Auckland (first day )and final payments for the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, Great Northern Oaks and Great Northern St. Leger. It is still uncertain where Clarinda and Puithair will race at Easter, as payments have been made for both Auckland and Riccarton. Tommy Tito has signed up as first horseman to J. Fryer until July, 1928. His services are much in demand at present. ' / Euchre will probably be tried over the big fences at the Bgmont meeting, and on recent performances he should be hard to beat If started in the Hack Steeplechase at Hawena. Benzora is reported to be galloping in fine style,- but it Is not yet certain where he will race at Easter, FelldIng or Ellerelle. Damarls works in a pleasing manner. The racing at Trentham appears to have improved her immensely and hopes arc entertained by her connections that she will do better at Ellerelle next week than she has ever done. ’
Shining Armour is expected to Uiow improvement on Bulls form at Eeilding next week.
Whenuanui has been worked the reversa way since his return from Trentham, and the Acre gelding is reported to be in great form. Some doubt is expressed as to his ability to run a mile, but his trainer is confident that he will go fast enough foi most engaged in the race with him. His reputation should accord him a largo number of supporters at Ellerslie.
Alloway appears to have reaped considerable benefit from his racing at Bulls. With any luck at all ,hls owner-trainer should get him into form good enough to win a good race at Auckland. He Is by LlmondAdmyra and has run some good races , although he has never been as fit as ho could be made owiii to mishaps of on e kind or another interfering with his preparation.
According to the Napier “Dally Telegraph’’ “Mr W. H. Galsford is shortly to remove his team from Greenmeadows to Palmerston North.,’ This statement may be correct and if so, the step may be considered a wise one in view of the fact that Awkpunl is far more central than is Commendation’s present domiole, whatever other comparisons may be made.
Rapine, accompanied by Star Stranger, Joy King, and Decoy Bird will make the journey to Auckland for the Easter carnival. A suitable rider could not be procured for Rapine at the southern meeting.
Mr and Mrs H. A. Knight leave this week for Sydney to be present when Mr Knight’s Limerick runs at the A.J.C. Easter meeting. The Llmond gelding looks like paying the expenses of the trip/

Royal Ceres will not race further this season. In future, h e will perform as a gelding.
Merry Jest has not done very much work since arriving at Ellerslie, but a few gallops should soon wind her up for her autumn engagements.

Mr J. J. Corry, the Blenheim owner, has appointed R. Alexander as his private'trainer. The latter was the private trainer of the late Mr, J. C. W. Grlgg for a number of years.

J. S. Potter has completed his term of apprenticeship to F .Tilley at Fordell. He will continue to ride for the Pordell stable for the remainder of the season.
Awarere, Aussie, Papatu and Ring Potoa have arrived at Ellerslie m charge of the To Awamutu trainer, G. Paul. Aussie Is In good trim and looks a better horse than when he failed at Te Aroha some weeks ago.
Roy Reed has been engaged to ride Flying Juliet in her Easter engagement at Ellerslie.
Whaka King, Lorna Doone and Master O’Rorke are to be taken to Ellerslie from Te Aroha for . the Easter meeting.
Hahgoloire la leing given strong work and is rounding off nicely. The Marble Arch gelding won the Autumn Steeplechase at Ellerslie last Autumn, but without any racing It is very improbable that he will repeat the performance this year.
Comedy Prince is being given work again, and reports of his progress are more than pleasing. His latest performance was over five flights of hurdles on Thursday morning in company with Rawhero and at the finish the Comedy King gelding had the advantage. "Comedy’’ Is nominated for the Hurdles on each day at the Manawatu meeting and Judging by the form he is displaying the opposition will be above the average If he is beaten.
Archibald Is accomplishing some good sound work on the track at El-
lerslie, and is already one oif tire popular fancies for the Brighton Hurdles, present indications pointing to him being very bard to beat. ' J. T. Jamieson Is taking a team of' eight horses to Eilersllo for the Auckland and Avondale meeting. His team will probably include Nippy, Eden Hall, Bo ChoucaS ) In the Shade, Curraghmore, prince Otto, Dimmer and T 1 Tree. Another English-bred horse is expected to reach New Zealand in the course of a few weeks; The horse IS' Cockpit, (China Cock-Sandford) and he is to go to the stud in the Hawke’s Bay district. Royal Divorce broke 'a long run of "also rans” yesterday at the Masterton meeting, when he dead-heated for first with Standard. Cawnpore has been doing useful work lately and he has a healthy appearance. His last success was scored at Takapuna over twelve months ago. One of the most attractive colts sent across the Tasman from New Zealand this year is the bay colt from Romeo—Refinement. It is understood that it will take a stiff figure to buy him.
