CHESS NOTES

(By “ A.W.”) Tho prolonged indisposition of its esteemed president and champion, Mr. T. A. Morlne, has for some time past deprived the Palmerston North Chess Club of the services of one of its most enthusiastic members,, and tho news that' he had entered a private hospital for operative treatment was received by Monday’s meeting' with deep regret. A resolution was passed unanimously expressing the Club’s sympathy and its best wishes for an early and complete recovery. A hearty welcome was accorded the Rev. Hbnry Braddock, of Wellington, who is visiting this.district in connection with his Mission,, and who took the opportunity of playing one or two local players. Arrangement's are well advanced for the Easter match with a Wellington team, and the secretary would be pleased to receive, as early as possible, the names of members able and willing to take part. The following game (for the score and notes of which we are indebted to Mr. P. K. Kelling) was played in the last New Zealand championship tourney. Ruy Lopez. J. A. IMoir, J. B.
