Always add salt, sparingly to cheese dishes, as some cheeses are sufficiently salt in themselves. Bamboo, after having been washed with salted water, should be polished with a duster moistened with linseed oil. Dirty and neglected old oak should first of all be washed with warm water and given daily, application of linseed oil till the surface is restored. Never use butter for greasing caketins, unless it is clarified, as the salt contained in' the butter is liable to make the mixture stick to the tin. Soda, though it helps to preserve the colour ; of green vegetables, destroys the finer tissues of the leaves, so should be omitted. If boiling the vegetables in the usual way in a pan full of boiling water, keep the lid off the pan and remove all scum as it rises. This helps to preserve the colour of the vegetables. • To make a pound of butter go a little further, take the butter and half a pound of good beef dripping, and melt together. Then pour mixture into basin to set. Try if one day. You will be surprised at th 0 excellent result! . The children will love it, too!
