RESOLUTION OF TARANAKI PRODUCERS.' (Per Press Ass^lation). HAWERA, Last Night. At a meeting held to-day called toy the Federation of Taranaki Co-opera-tive Dairy Companies, attended by Messrs. T. A. Winks, J. R. Corrigan, and H. D. Forsyth, members of the Dairy Produce Board, and 300 factory suppliers, the following resolution was passed: ,• “That this meeting of the Taranaki Dairy Producers wishes to revert to the freedom of control conditions as far as the marketing of New, Zealand dairy produce is concerned, being satisfied that the true function of the Board should be restricted to arrangements for shipping and insurance, covering the care pf all t New Zealand produce." An amendment asking for the elimination of the Board -was defeated on the voices. MR. HAWKEN DEFENDS CONTROL. ALSO INSPECTS WHEAT-GROWING AREAS. ASHBURTON.. Last Night. The Hon. Mr. O. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, arrived here to-day at the invitation of the Mid-Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union and A. and P. Association to inspect the wheat-growing areas of the country. In the morning he inspected the experimental farm. In the afternoon he addressed a large meeting of farmers on the wheat question. His speech was much on the lines of the Premier’s recent statements at Timaru and Christchurch, adding that notice of intention to impose a duty would be given to Australia within a day or two. Referring to dairy produce, Mr. Hawken defended control. The Minister tours the country tomorrow, returning to Wellington in the evening.
