NEW ZEALAND DAIRYMEN

REFERENCES IN AMERICA. The fact that rural activities in the Dominion are receiving notice in America is indicated by remarks made at a recent discussion on “Rural Electrification.” A speaker from Wisconsin in the course 'of his remarks stated: “The problem of operating a milking machine is one to which electricity adopts itself most admirably. Electric milkers are being used more all the time. In this connection it is interesting to note that just recently the tariff has been raised on butter from eight to twelve cents., to permit' farmers in this country to compete with the Danish farmer and the New Zealand farmer. The New Zealand farmer does not put butter on the market at a low price altogether because of the climatic conditions. It is true they have pasture practically all the year round, but at the same time they do use all the latest, and best laboursaving equipment, I .should like to repeat a remark that was made to me recently by an engineer. He said he thought, there was not a milking machine oh the American market that was the equal of the average milking machine sold in New Zealand.”
