A HERMIT PEOPLE

OUT OFF FOR 250 YEARS. It is difficult to imagine at this time of day a community of people who have had no touch with the rest of the world for 250 years. Yet that is what is reported to have been found in explorations in Eastern Siberia. It is a community of 38 people whose ancestors trekked eastward from Russia 250 years ago. They have kept an old form of the language and have forgotten the calendar, but still manage to keep Easter and Christmas not far from the right dates. Politically, they better both the old Russia and the new. for having no king or president, they settle all their problems by a majority vote.
