FINED £10; LICENSE CANCELLED
DRUNK WHILE IN CHARGE OP CAR.
Following upon the motor collision which occurred at the junction of Broadway avenue and Ruahinc street on Saturday evening, Joseph Rumble, farmer, of Huaroa, near Stratford, appeared before Mr J. L- Stout, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with being drunk while at the wheel.
Accused pleaded guilty. According to Senior-Sergeant O’Grady, Rumble tore up Broadway Avenue at between 35 to 40 miles per hour ahd on the wrong side of the street. “I came down to attend a funeral,” stated accused, “and I don’t think I was doing more than 15 miles.” He admitted having had three brandys and a port during the afternoon. His Worship imposed a fine of £lO and cancelled Rumble’s license. Ho also ordered that a new license should not be issued for six months after the beginning of the next registration year. Accused: “A car is tKo only way I can get to work.” His Worship: “You will have to get someone else to drive you then. Rumble was given a week in which to pay the fine, tn default 14 days' imprisonment.
