MARVELS OF THE FUTURE
WIRELESS AND TRANSPORT. ENGINEERING EXHIBITION. LONDON. Oct. 22. I had a glimpse'at tho transport of the year 2026 through the wrong end of a telescope, writes an “Evening Standard” representative, when I paid a visit to the Exhibition of Model Engineering at the Royal Horticultural Hall. Tho ship is naturally extinct, and its place is taken by a huge aero-iiner. It looks just like a nightmare, for it has 14 gapping wings, each of which is covered with smaller wings like the scales of a fish. These flap as the machine makes its way through the air, and it is calculated that the motion would bo as steady as an omnibus. The locomotive is also eliminated, ’and tho driver, signalman, and motive power arc provided entirely by wireless. Major Phillips, who is experimenting on -the wireless train, had a small model on exhibition. “I have tried my invention on big trains: in fact, I built a stretch of railway for the purpose. I found I could run a train without any engine or driver without any trouble at all. The only trouble is that of jamming.. It is going to take a long time lo got over this difficulty, but I am sure that in a. hundred years’ time the ‘wireless’ line will be, running. “At the moment I am concentrating on wireless signalling. I have found a practicable scheme for the signalling for up and down lines, which after furl her experiments should lie successful.” Even the belfry will bo out of date a hundred years hence, for the same Inventor has devised a method of ringing wedding Dolls by wireless!
