BEAM WIRELESS
AUSTRALIAN SERVICE. TESTS TO BE MADE SHORTLY. | i LONDON, Oct. 2G. i Senator Marconi will begin ins tests i with the Australian beam stations* at Ballan and Rockbank in November. He anticipates that they will be easier than the Canadian tests, in which electric disturbances, due to sunspots and the Aurora Borealis, interfered. | Similar difficulties are not likely with the Australian service. The duration of the tests is uncertain, but the public service should be available by New Year's Day at the latest, while it is possible that there will be an earlier completion to enable an exchange of British and Australian Christmas greetings. The controller states that a midnight to noon service is most satisfactory, after which there is a short interruption, due to atmospherics. A perfect resumption follows shortly afterwards, and the working is excellent, enabling the handling of enormous traffic. "We have a lot to learn before we entirely overcome atmospherics.” he said.
