Verdict in Favour of Plaintiff

SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGES AWARDED

[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Last Night.

The hearing of the claim by John William Lockett against Constable George Macartney, of Mornington, for £IOO damages for alleged assault and £3OO damages for alleged false imprisonment, was continued in the Supreme Court this morning, before His Honour Mr. Justice Sim, and a jury of twelve. After a retirement of one hour, the jury found that plaintiff was not drunk, ajid that defendant did not honestly think that he was drunk. £l5O was awarded for wrongful arrest and £25 maltreatment, costs according to scale.
