THINGS VERY QUIKT. CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 2. According to a, cablegram received on Monday by a Christchurch firm, tho early potato crop in Australia is a failure. While this is unlikely to have any effect locally this season. it may indirectly provn beneficial to Canterbury growers next. year. Meanwhile no fresh inquiries are being received, and tubers are stationary round about 3Rs to farmers at country stations. Hin(liny It difficult to quit seed growers are planting a largo acreage, and llio area, sown will apparently 1)0 larger than over this year. Tin- seed market is in a state of stagnation. Only good quality chaff is finding' buyers, and there is a fair demand for A grade, tho price to farmers at, country stations ranging between £5 10s and £O. Oats which have stood in stack all tho winter do not cut so well as those chaffed in autumn and winter. A good proportion of chaff now offering is bright enough, but tho weight is lacking.
