SYDNEY’S HOLIDAY TRAFFIC
PASSENGERS ON TRAMS. NEARLY 1,000,000 CARRIED. Figures of the railway and tramway traffic in Sydney for the recent Eight-Hour Day holiday week-end show that 5233 first-class and 18,101 second-class railway tickets were issued, the revenue received being £3279. Compared with the corresponding day last year there was a decrease of 35 first-class and 541 second-class passengers, and £92 in revenue. Traffic on the tramways was heavy. On Eight-hour Day 9 40,000 passengers wore carried and £12,032 earned; n.n increase of 59,223 passengers and fGS7 revenue compared with the same day last year. On the Saturday 85,012 passengers wore carried and £2300 revenue was earned from racecourse traffic, an increase of 5027 passengers and £2OO revenue. The figures for Monday were 72,800 passengers and £1892 revenue, a decrease of 1251 passengers and £3O revenue. The total racecourse traffic carried on Saturday and Monday was 158,412 passengers, and revenue £4192, an increase of 4370 passengers and £176 in revenue.
