BATTERY ELIMINATORS
For some time now transformers whereby the household current can be substituted for that from dry cells and storage batteries have been on the market, though the first types failed to justify all that was claimed for them. There has been an insistent demand for some means of merely plugging into a wall socket and using the juice for the set. Much research in a field that offered big commercial possibilities has at last brought several very satisfactory types of transformer on the market—types that completely eliminate that alternating current hum that has been one of the chief obstacles to success. Though these new devices represent a much higher outlay than for accumulators, their running cost is low. Unfortunately those that are advertised and commented upon are designed for a 110-volt current, and would not be suitable for local conditions. The writer has not yet heard of a battery eliminator in use locally.
