COW AT PICTURE SHOW

STEER HOLDS IP TRAINS. TICKET COLLECTOR CHASED. LONDON, Oct S. Breaking away from Woking railway station, a cow visited a draper’s and inspected two departments. She then went into a cinema theatre, walked upstairs, and stood in tho front row of the dress circle during the orchestra’s rehearsal. She left by the emergency exit, walking caremlly down the 20 steps, until she startled a woman attendant, who locked the doors. The cow was unable to turn, and was trapped on the stairs until the pictures were opened. Meanwhile, a steer, escaping from a paddock at Tunbridge Wells, entered Cowden railway station and chased a ticket collector, who tried to bar its way, half a mile up the line. The collector escaped just before the steer charged into the tunnel, where, bellowing with rage, it repulsed attempts of a large party of attackers, armed with ropes and sticks and torches. Finally, with the trains held up and traffic disorganised for over half an hour, the officials wired to the station at tho other side of the tunnel, A detached engine, with whistle shrieking and funnel belching smoke, drove the steer through the tunnel into the waiting lasso at the other end.
