TOM HEENEY WINS AGAINST STANLEY
New Zealander on Tep in Nearly Every Round MR COATES WATCHES FIGHT [By Electric Cable-Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Tuesday, 9.45 p.m.) LONDON. Oct. 25. Mr Coates was present at the Ueeney-Stanley fight and congratulated the Now Zealander in the dressing room on his win. Both men wore in good form and fought hard throughout. There was a curious similarity in all the rounds, Heenoy invariably rushing in and hitting out.’ Tim the lighters closed and in-lighting followed with upper cuts until a momentary breakaway came. But soon they were head to head again despite the referee’s interventions.
Staqlcy made some use of his superiority in inches, but Hoeney staggered Stanley with a left and right to the jaw in the second round and maintained his superiority in the third though his face blows had little sting in them.
Stanley made a better show in the fourth round, but Heeney broke away and scored with hits to the face and body. At the end of the round both fought hard. • In the fifth Stanley was endeavouring to avoid punches when Heeney landed a blow, but it was relatively Ineffective. There were few good straight, rights by either man and no spectacular bouts, but the last four rounds were .lively, Heeney trying hard for a knock-out. Stanley, ho\s - over, covered well. There is no doubt if Keeney’s blows bad carried any real power the contest would have ended long before as (he Now Zealandcd was on top in practically every round.
