AMERICAN PROSPERITY
ONLY ADVERSE FACTORS NEW YORK, October 10. That America is at present more soundly prosperous than ho had ever known it, is the opinion of Sir Mark Sheldon, the Sydney commercial export, who was Commonwealth Commissioner to America in 1919-1920. He has made an extended business lour of America, and states that the present conditions are stable and likely to remain so. The only adverse factors are the reduction in the price of cereals and the situation of the cotton industry, which has become serious. While this would affect the Southern States it would prove beneficial to cotton goods manufacturers throughout the world.
Politically the great bulk of the people were still extremely national in their viewpoint. They showed little interest in questions other than domestic, being reluctant to follow their leaders in International policy such as World Court and other questions.
Sir Mark Sheldon is generally regarded as one of the most able of Australian business men. He is chairman of directors of the Australian Bank of Commerce, and is on the directorate of a number of companies.
