EXTENSIVE ADVERTISING NECESSARY,

(Received Thursday, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 14. "The housewife holds the key to the Jituation,” says the Empire Producers’ Association’s memorandum, prepared for submission to the Imperial Conference. It says that vigorous advertising Empire products is needed, but the first appeal must be made to the housewife. Further than that, advertising should be in the hands of the producers. The memorandum in the first place advocates Empire preference, not only in tariffs, but in income-tax on Empire Investments, as compared with foreign, also in materials used in Government and public contracts. Statutory sanction should be given to producers’ organisations to enable them to act comprehensively like the New Zealand Meat Board. The conference whs invited to consider the necessity of fast refrigerated ships in the Australian and New Zealand trade, and to give approval to the contemplated Imperial Hrqducers’ Conference. The Duke of Sutherland is Presi-dent-elect of the Producers’ Association for 1927.,
