Wapp to Adelfena Sterne. Engineer's Report. Western riding.—The main high-1 ways in this riding have been repeat- j odly treated with grader and some maintenance gravel has been placed on' JVXakino and Kimbolton roads. Forlong’s road from Kimbolton road to Oroua river has been considerably im- j proved, but still requires some addi-; tionul gravel. As instructed, I have prepared alternative estimates for repairing damage to approach at bridge across Rangitawa stream at Kakariki. (u) For putting in wing walls, protective works and filling, j (to) For providing extra span wing: walls and protective works. The cost | would bo approximately £l3O for the' former, £285 for the latter but one disadvantage of putting an additional. span would be thut it would be necessary to close the road for all traffic j for several days. j Eastern riding.—Gravel repairs! have been carried out on Spur, Taonui, Bunnythorpe, and Stoney Creek roads, a start wa s made at repair work on watershed road but wet weather stopped this work. Highways have been maintained by frequent use 1 of grader and drag, and supplies of I maintenance gravel delivered on to I Palmerston-Ashhurst and Pohanglna! roads. The construction work on the j former roads has been completed. All \ boundary signs on main highway have now been erected. Flood damage.—The recent abnormally wet weather culminating in anj exceptionally heavy flood on last Sun-1 day night resulted in considerable damage being done to the County roads. i

Makino and Kimbolton roads again suffered by having considerable lengths of surface destroyed, on the latter road a bad scour took place at the 'approach to the Kiwitea bridge. Conditions are becoming worse on this road and unless means are devised for cutting oft portion of the water which conies down the drain at the side of the road it will bo impossible to prevent further damage in the future. While the flood was at its height, I made an inspection of the majority of the roads and noted a number of cases where culverts must be enlarged and outlets improved.-—Received.
