THE INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC
DANGER OF PNEUMONIA, HEALTH OFFICERS ISSUE WARNING. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, July 7. Dr. T. F. Telford, medical officer i Canterbury, lias issued a warning people who recently have recovin from influenza. In their conseque. low condition of health, ho states, Lii. are liable to contract pneumonia such practices as standing about c damp football grounds and oth places. Two fresh cases of pneumonia wei. reported this morning and a death from pneumonic influenza has occurred in Tiraaru. Of 25 public schools in and immediately adjoining Christchurch, six arc open to-day. This is a striking instance of the extent of the incidence of tho disease. Dr. Telford expresses the opinion that three or four days should witness the beginning of tho decline in the incidence of the disease. DUNEDIN ESCAPES LIGHTLY. ALL SCHOOLS RE-OPENED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 7. Although the Influenza epidem. has several northern centres in iU grip, Dunedin has so far escaped fail ly lightly. There was a fairly seven epidemic of whooping cough, and a number of schools were shut for a few days, but they arc all open again.
