PALMERSTON NORTH HOSPITAL

MEETING OF BOARD. A meeting of thc Palmerston North Hospital Board was held yesterday, Sir J. G. Wilson presiding. There were also present: Mrs. L. A. Abraham, Messrs. G. A. Monk, Catloy, F. Pycroft, J. W. Bramwell, J. Follas, H. W. Smart, F. J. Ryder, L. T. McLean, M. A. Moody, D. Coilis, J. H. Vincent, J. K. Hornblow. Three months’ leave of absence was granted Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., owing to Parliamentary duties, Correspondence.

From the Director-General of Health advising that the report of Dr. MacEachern on the New Zealand Public Hospital system was not yet to hand. From Mr. John Stevenson (Bulls) expressing gratitude for treatment received at the Hospital. “Had I been the richest man in Now Zealand, I could not have received better treatment,” said the writer. “The Board might well be proud of such a healing institution. “That’s better than the usual lack,” commented Mr. Vincent. Reports, The matron of the Old People's Home (Miss H. Pottorsen) reported 39 inmates, 32 of whom were men. Several had severe colds. Enjoyable concerts had been given during the month by Miss Binder and party, Cuba Street Methodist Ladies’ Guild, Church of Christ, and Seventh Day Adventists. Dr. L. Frazer (Medical Superintendent) reported that 169 patients were admitted during the month, 158 discharged, while three had died. The daily average was 117.6. The major operations performed numbered 48 and minor ones 23. Matron M. G. Davies reported that Staff Nurse A. E. McLaughlan completes her four years’ training on August 6th, and had asked to bo relieved of her duties on that date. Misses M. I. Ellcrby, R. Iwikau, and M. H. Goodman had completed their three months’ probation and were recommended to be placed on the staff for training. General. Mr. Hornblow gave notice to move at next meeting: “That the executive peruse the by-laws with the object of removing any anomalies as to the duties and responsibilities of the resident medical officer and matron.” The secretary, Mr. A. J.' Phillipps, in presenting the quarterly statement of accounts, remarked that the financial position showed a slight improvement, patients’ fees collected amounting to £4l in excess of those of the corresponding quarter last year.
