Gazclcy, Wembley, Punishment 7.0. notes. The result of the Ormond Gold Cup was not in doubt after the first futlong. Reremoana simply broke the Others up by his brilliance, and all though'he did 1.38 1-5, a race record, he pulled up very fresh, and paid a •good price in the circumstances. There has recently been a notable number of horses who have achieved double victories at the one meeting. Most notable was Grand Knight’s capturing of the Great Easter and Great Autumn at Riccarton, and lately we have had Bright Day, Degage, Opa, True Blood, Tuki, Ruapapa, Sorang, Ned Kelly, the last five at the Waikato Autumn meeting, which concluded yesterday. Opa is a hardy little customer that has stood up to his racing well. His new impost of 8.9 in the Patea County Cup leaves him still to be reckoned with. In Shirley and Father O’Flynn, S Waddell has two good sprinters and ■his success with both at the H.B. J.C. meeting was very popular with local racegoers. Ruapapa came from the back to boat Princess Ronnie brilliantly by a head in the Storey Memorial Cup at the Waikato Racing Club meeting on Saturday . He then returned a good price, as fourth favourite, but there must have been many lamenting yesterday when he captured the Te Rapa Handicap, for which h e was eighth favourite in a field of twentytwo. Star Stranger, with his good showing in the Autumn Handicap at Trcntham, when ho went 2.18 3-4, was first choice of backers for the Hawke’s Bay Cup, and despite his impost of 9.4, he put up a great performance in getting up in time to dead-heat with Opa. Killoch, outsider in the Hawke’s Bay Cup, made play from the field and was leading by several lengths with the race half over. These tactics proved unavailing, however, as Killoch died away and was well behind the placed horses at the finish. As New Zealand owners bought freely at the recent bloodstock sales in Sydney, there will be an abundance of Australian-bred ones racing next season. According to a leading Australian sporting writer, the New Zealand owned and bred Royal Tea ranks next to Rampion amongst the youngsters that raced in Australia. With the conclusion of racing at Hastings and Waikato, the principal flat racing of 1925-26 will conclude, and taking everything into consideration it has been a most successful one from every point of view. One of the latest horses to be placed on the “schooling-list” Is the Austra-lian-bred Alfort, which of late has turned very mulish at the barrier. As Alfort Is now nominated for hurdle races, he may finish his career in that branch of the sport. Of the "tyros” one may see competing in the chief steeplechases this year, Peter Maxwell’s prospects look as bright as most, says “Historicus.” This gelding has pace, stays well, and in his first two races over "country” (at Pacroa) succeeded in running a first and a second, following these performances up with another close second at Ellerslie.
