MANAWATU HUNT

DRAG HUNT AT RAUAJAI. Again rough weather militated against a. large attendance o£ followers of the hounds on Saturday afternoon, when the meet took place at the homestead of Mr. R. -MacDonald, Raumal. However, a fair mur.tei assembled and had two good runs, the paddocks proving in line order for the

sport after the recent rains. There was not a single spill, both riders and horses acquitting themselves remarkably well. During one run, tho hounds got on to a hare and most of the pack went over a twenty foot bank (a sheer drop) so keen wore they on tho scent. Fortunately they landed on a thick growth of lawyers, instead of the river bod, so that none of them was injured. The drag was laid by Mr. J. Hewitson, on Hazlewood and Mr. M*. McCool, on Peggy O’Neill. Those ending to hounds were Mr. L. 11. Collinson (Master), on Punjaub; Mr. .T Walker (Huntsman), Robin Adair; Mr. A. Ealmcr (Hon. Whip), Rhodu; Mrs. Sutton, Pot Luck; Miss Meads, Birkonoso: Miss Kitty Saunders, Top Rail, H. D. Kutherfurd, Karawau; A. Jenkins, Lady Comet: D. I. Balmcr. Jock; W. H. Oliver, Gay Willie, J. Hewitson, Hazlewood: M. McCool, Peggy O’Neill; and others. At the conclusion of the Hunt all present, including a large number of spectators, were entertained at afternoon tea. The President, Mr. D. B. McEwen, proposed a vote of thanks to their host and hostess and also to the prop-erty-owners, and in doing so, expressed the great appreciation of members of the. Hunt for the kind hospitality extended to them. The vote of thanks was carried with hearty cheers. Tho next hunt will be at Dir. Johnston's homestead, Cheltenham, on Wednesday, when tho hounds will throw off at 1 o’clock for hare hunting.
