The second day of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club meeting was held in fine weather with a good attendance. The course was bettor than on Friday, after overnight rain. Maungunonga fell at the second hurdle in the Mangataratn Hurdles and broke his nock; the jockey, F. Jenkins, sustaining a compound fracture of the jaw. Strongholt also came down, but his rider was unhurt. Cohesion lost his rider after going 100 yards in the Akitio Handicap. The jockey was uninjured. An inquiry re veaied that the case was a pure accident. The tot# handled £22,027, against £39,128. The total for the meeting was £40,317 against £63,349 last year. PATEA COUNTY CUP.—Opa 89. NOTES. When the tapes went up in the Ormoud Gold Cup, Rcremoana set the running, followed by Glentruin, Grand Knight and Rapine. At the sixfurlOng post, Rcremoana was still a distance of about a length and ahalf from Glentruin, with Grand Knight about a length behind. Grand Knight spurted on the outside of Glentruin at the far bend, but could not overhaul the leader. Coming into the home straight, Rcremoana had a lead of about two lengths and finishing in well, won by four lengths. Rapine made a strong run and outpaced Grand Knight by half a length. Glentruin was two lengths further back. The field was well bunched from the despatch of the field in the Burke Memorial, but at the turn Wristlet went out and was leading ait the back, followed by Phoenix Park and Novar. At the far bend Gaze went up on the outside of Wristlet, but on reaching the homo turn the field bunched up again and Wristlet gave place to Klicoit and Gaze. The pair were making a gallant contest when Opa came through with a great burst of speed, to win by halt a length from Kilceit, who was two lengths in front of Gaze. KiJfaire was fourth. Royal Damon led from the start of the sprint, with Standard and Shirley next. Nearing the home bend Shirley and Huikai came on together, but the latter could not sustain the pace and fell back.
