Mr Wallace R, T.loyd, advance manager of I'at Hanna's Diggers, was in town yesterday completing arrangements for their season hero on Satu>~3ay 20th March.
When proceeding from Apitl yestorday afternoon about three o’clock, Archibald McXae, aged 22 years, mot with an accident and fractured the lower part of his right leg. His motor cycle skidding in some rough metal was the cause.
Wireless enthusiasts will no doubt bo interested to know that portion of •Put Hanna’s Digger’s” performance at Taihape on March 9th was broadcasted between 5.20 and 10 p.m. by Mr Motion Ooutt’s, who has achieved fame as the only station to successfully broadcast music that was legibly heard in ’ England and Japan. Mr Coutt’s station is 2AQ, Taihape.
On a fence along the main road near Mangaweka are draped the corpses of two or three dozen hawks, ..Jain by a grazier who wages determined war on these birds. In the Wanganui disiirict hawks are plenti-
ful but they prey on lambs and cast sheep, and are cordially letestod by the men on the land, one dead hawk being appreciated more than 00 dead rab.oits.
In the Wanganui cijty nursery there arc two rows of young trees which can be more aptly described as freaks The seed was obtained by Mr. Tucker from a macrocarpa tree in one of the city reserves and planted alongside a row of Japonica. In the majority of instances a cross between a macrocarpa and a japonica has resulted, with an occasional macrocarpa show, ing up in the rows true to type.
Through failing’ to comply with a summons (o answer an application for a paternity order against him, in respect of an illegitimate child, of which he is alleged tc he the father Harry Hawnie, alias "Paddy” Downie, alias Patrick Morgan, a labourer of 112 years appeared on warrant before Messrs W. McKenzie and J. Mowlem, J's P at the Police Court yesterday. The case was remanded until next’ week.
The Rev. Harold T. Peat will conduct anniversary services at Cuba street Methodist Church, to-morrow. In the morning lie will preach on the subject, “The Church's One Foundation” and the evening theme will be, "The Master of Men.” Special anthems by an augmented choir of forty voices will be rendered both morning and evening. The Church doors are open to all, and each of the 450 seats is free.
Arrangements have been made whereby the Eketahuna Automobile Association will display the passability or otherwise of the IXimulaka Hill and the Manawatu Gorge. This will prove a groat convenience to motorGorgo, as when it is blocked motorists, particularly with respect to the ists will be able I a turn off at Mangamaire to go over the track, if they so desire, and thereby save several miles on the journey.
An enterprising- Aucklander wrote to the Hamilton Borough Council suggesting that it should call tenders for the advertising space on its gasometers and on the hoarding space surrounding them. The suggestion, however was not a disinterested one, for the writer remarked that if the ide a was made use of, he expected to' be rewarded, say, by the first halfyear’s rent derived. “Is it meant as a joke?” asked a councillor and the communication was merely received.

The remark caused much merriment, but the speaker went on to explain that such was Indian otiuuo'ttc. To be in tune with his subject Mr. McMillan then proceeded to wind on the 7 6 yards of silk that comprised his turban, the children exhibiting groat interest if. the process.
Motorists on tour during Easter will lie pleased to learn that the Wanganui Automobile Association have established another camp site, in addition to I lie .iramolio Park and C'kchu camp sites. The new one is at the Bulls Domain, about 4UO yards from the main road, being surround, cd by beautiful trees and hush. There are tennis courts ,a children’s playground, fireplaces, water and all conveniences. Even if the motorist docs not wish to camp ,the spot is well worth a visit.
The quarterly Communion service at Tiakitahnna to-morrow evening will be conducted by Rev. G. T. Brown, M.A.
Special missionary services are to be held in St. Andrew's Church tomorrow. The morning service will bo taken by Mr J. Priestley of the Sudan United Mission, while the evening address will be given by Rev. A, W. McMillan, of Fiji.
