POWER BOARD’S POUND OF FLESH
A MODICUM OH BONE. Total collections, £31,749; bad debts, £8 6s 4d, equal to 6d in £IOO, is the record of the ManawatuOroua Power Board over the past twelve months, and one that does credit to the care and attention of the secretary and his staff. “A great record,” was the comment of Mr P. J. Small. In reviewing the little list, the chairman (Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.), explained that one debtor had walked olf his farm, another had assigned his estate, and yet another, a Maori, had gone into the house after one reading and had left before the next. The imposition of deposits of 10s in the town and £1 in the country had made all the difference and had proved a very wise procedure. Defaulting consumers were now cut off without notice. He moved that the amount of £26 12s, taken over on the books of the Feilding Borough, together with the £BOOO incurred between Feilding and the Board’s outside area over the last twelve months, be written off. The secretary further explained that one man, whose name was on the list, had been given money to pay the accounts of several neighbours and had disappeared with the lot.
