WAR GRAVES DESTROYED
MINE FIRED AT THIEPVAL [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Monday, 9,50 p.m.) LONDON, March 8. Hundreds of graves were destroyed at the British war cemetery at Thiepval (about five miles north of Albert, on the Somme), the scene of tex-rifle fighting on July 1, 1916. A party of labotxrcrs tried to root up a wire, not knowing it was connected with a mine laid in war time. An explosion caused a terrific crater and was heard 20 miles away. Ten thousand, including many Australians and New Zealanders, are burled at Thlepval.
