NEW ANNEXATION PROPOSALS. 1 TOUR BY CITY FATHERS. A two-hours tour of the outskirts l of the borough was made by the Mayor (Mr F. J. Nathan) and councillors yesterday in connection with .the proposal to extend the borough j boundaries. The tour, which was , made in one of the municipal ’buses, j covered a distance of 17J miles. I Councillors generally were ,in agreement on the broad lines upon which iit is proposed to extend the boundaries. though nothing definite was decided upon. The southern boundary at Mr Slevert’s orchard, some distance on the town side of Melford road, was the first part visited. A growing area la situated in this direction beyond the borough boundary. It was stated that most of the houses had good supplies, of . artesian water. The general opinion expressed was that the boundary should be extended up Melford road past the abattoirs to the Longburn road, and along this road in the direction of the town to. Monrad Street crossing: and that; a further area of land should be taken in from there right across to Boundary Road. It was thought that the frontier on the western side of Boundary Road had j better be extended so that it would ■take in a strip some 20 or 25 chains up Gillespie’s line from the road land thencp across country approximately on the route of the railway deviation to Milson’s line, taking in the new railway cottages, about 20 or 30 of which, are now completed. After inspecting the. new cemetery site at Ke'vin G r ove, the party took the route down to Napier road and back, to to.jyn, stopping at the gasworks, which are half in the borough and half in the county area. Here the engineer, Mr J. : R. 1 Hughes, pointed put the desirability of taking in a strip some 20 chains wide beyond the existing boundary from Napier road 5 across to the railway line, so as to include what it was hoped in future 1 would be Palmerston North’s industrial area- The suggestion was favourably commented upon, i
