Lieut.-General Sir Francis Lloyd, who served in the Soudan South African and European wars, is dead, aged 72. Mr. E. W. Low, Palmerston North has ben appointed the delegate to the Manawatu Referees’ Association to the conference of referees to be held at Invercargill during Easter.

Mr. William Leonard, a member of tlio Victoria Racing Club committee for over fifty years, died yesterday at Melbourne, aged 94. He won the Caulfield Guineas with Master Foote. The death has occurred at the Masterton hospital of Mr John Smith, an old resident of the Tinul district, and formerly of Pahlatua. The deceased, who was 67 years of age, was a native of Victoria. Mr. H. J, Thompson, of the staff of the Boy's High School, has been notified that he has succeeded in passing the degree of Master of Laws, with the equivalent of second-class honours Mr. Thompson is the only graduate in New Zealand to hold the three degres of M.A., M.Com., and LI.M. Hon. J. G. Gardiner has been chosen Premier of Saskatchewan in succession to Hon. C. A. Dunning, who resigned to enlter the Federal Cabinet. The new Premier has been Minister of Highways and Minister in charge of the Bureau of Labour and Industries since 1922. He was selected by convention of the Liberal Party of the province. Mr N. H. S. Law, who has been appointed an Inspector In the Wanganui Educational District, has had a distinguished Career, and his departure will mean a distinct loss to educational circles In Auckland (says the “Herald.") He had always, been keenly interested In all matters affecting teachers, and was president of the New Zealand Educational Institute. He has also been president of the Assistant Masters' Association and the Auckland branch of the Educational Institute, and was a member of the Teachers* Appeal Court for six years. In addition, he was an active member of the Methodist Church, and took a keen Interest in the Papatoetoe Debating Society. A special line of plated art silk hose has just been opened by Colllnson and Cunninghame. They have the full lustrous appearance not obtainable In plated stockings In the ordinary way. In black and newest light shades. Well worth 6/11; but being slightly Imperfect they are selling for 4/11 pair, Colllnson and Cunninghame.'
