M. PAINDEVE ROBBED. PARIS,, Feb. 13. Before lifting' the first spadeful of earth on a new section of the underground railway, M. Painleve, the former Prime Minister, signed a. navvy’s trade union card. In the course of the ceremony M. Painleve’a pocket was picked and his watch stolen. The thief, however, on learning M. Painleve’s identity, restored the watch unobserved.
