RONGOTEA
PLUNKET SOCIETY. [From Our Own Correspondent.] The Rongotea branch of the Blanket Society was inaugurated six months ago by an enthusiastic committee of ladies, who decided to join with the Feilding branch and with the assistance of that body, obtain the services of a nurse once a week. The scheme was not an unqualified success, owing to the difficulty of transport and the fact that the nurse could not be in Rongotea at a convenient time. Both the Feilding and local committees agreed that some better .arrangement was necessary, so it ivas decided to apply to the Palmerston North branch for a nurse’s services. Mesdames Coombs and Altchison, president and secretary respectively of the Palmerston North Society, accompanied by Miss Patrick, director of the work, visited Rongotea yesterday and discussed the proposal with the local committee. Miss Patrick warmly complimented the ladies on the splendid way in which they were battling to keep their branch going under great difficulties. It was found that the transport problem was still a difficult one, as the service cars did not run to a suitable time-table. After hearing the local comimttee’s proposal, the visiting ladies agreed to put the matter before their committee and felt sure that something could be done for Rongotea.
