CYCLING CRASH

[Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night There was a sensational smash at the .English Park Stadium on Qaturs day night during' the course of a motor-paced cycle race, resulting In ■ H. W. Nesbitt, at\ Australian cyclist, being sent to hospital,' and R. Nicholson ,a Wanganui rider, receiving injuries which necessitated medical attention. Nesbitt was riding behind the rollers Hi L. C. Monckman’s Har-loy-Davidson and Nicholson was taking pace from Eddie Marra, who was riding an Indian. At the bend a(tor passing the judges for the last lime Marra attempted to lead Nicholson past the other pair. As they passed on the bend iirith the machines on the angle, Nesbitt’s : cycle slipped and he come down, strapped to the pedals. Marra’s motor ran Over the fallen man and his machine collapsed on the other’s bicycle. Marra , was pitched clear. Nicholson was thrown towards , the pickets, Ills machine being hurled Into the heap. Marra and Nesbitt arose but Nicholson remained where he had fallen. The crowd swarmed over the ground and a St. John's Ambulance, man took charge of the injured man. Nicholson came round after a time and Nesbitt was able to walk off with assistance, but later he was removed to hospital. His Injuries are not serious. Nicholson was treat ed at the out-patlente' department and discharged. -Marra was shaken but uninjured. Monckman escaped unscathed. \
