Dr. J. M. Twhigg, has returned to Palmerston North, where he is acting as locum tenens for Dr. C. W. Peach.

The death occurred at Feildlng yesterday of Mr John Graham, in his 84th year.. He was born In Nelson, which constituency he represented in the New Zealand'Parliament for 18 years.

Mr Francis T. Carson, of the Public Trust Office, Wellington, has been appointed to be deputy of the District Public Trustee, Wellington, during the latter's absence from his headquarters. i .

Lieut-Col. E. J. Hulbert, D. 5.0., a woll.known officer of the New Zealand Mounteds, was in Palmerston North over the week-end. He returns to-day to Wellington where he Is Cashier of the New Zealand Treasury.

Mr R. H. T. Young, the Wellington tennis player, leaves New Zealand on Friday week to pursue his studies at Cambridge University. He will carry from this district, where he Is ad. mired for his manly qualities, almost as many good wishes as from the Empire city itself.

Mr G. G. Jackson, of the Bank of New Zealand, Palmerston North, has been transferred to the branch at Featherston and leaves to take up his new duties this morning. On Thursday evening Mr Jackson was presented with a gold fountain pen by the officers of , the 7th and Bth batteries, be being a Lieutenant of the latter.

Mr H. F. Gibbons represented the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis Club at Saturday’s luncheon of the Hawke’s Bay and Wellington teams. Ha was in congenial company as he is probably the best all round athlete the Bay has ever turned out. Among many other accomplishments he was one of the most famous of the rugby players of the eighties and captained Hawke’s Bay.

Mr Noel Elmslie, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner In New Zealand, who has been appointed to the post of His Majesty’s Senior Trade Commissioner in South Africa, in succession to Mr W. G. Wickham, left New Zealand for an official visit to the United Kinglom last March, and upon Mr Wickham's resignation arrangements were made for him to proceed temporarily to Johannesburg, where he has been in control since November.

McIlveney, Commissioner of Police, Wellington.
