FRAU HUBBARD’S HUNGRY HOUNDS

HEAVY DEMANDS ON EMPTY LARDER I ——— Ex-Royalties’ Claims Total 250 Millions BARRAGE BILL SUSPENDS NEGOTIATIONS [By Electric Cable —Copyright] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Friday, 7.15 p.m.) LONDON, February 5. German Irritation at the demands of the cv-Kalser, princes and dukes, whose claims to money and estates from thelp impoverished country amount to some 250 millions sterling, has been temporarily allayed by the socalled “Barrage” Bill, suspending all negotiations between the exKaiser and Prussian princelings and their States until June 30. In the meantime, the Reich will establish a special court to hear the claims and lay down the principles under which awards will be made. P’or instance, it is proposed that all money grants will revert to the national treasury at. the expiration of a period of years to be fixed. Moreover, all increments from grants are to be yielded up to the State. The bill secured three readings at one sitting of the Reichstag and comes into force immediately. The debate revealed that the ex-Kaiser from the revolution until 1922, paid no taxes on income, in 1924 he paid £33,000 and in 1925, £45,000. Speakers complained that the exRoyalties were using their wealth to maintain propaganda bureaux In favour of a restoration of the Monarchy, besides exacting toll with tnle commercial instinct. For instance the Duke Charles of Coburg is suing one of the people’s commissars for rent of a room occupied in his deserted palace during the revolutionary days of 1918,

It is also emphasised that the ex.rulers obtained some of their property in a questionable manner into which the court should inquire, awarding only such as is strictly within their rights. It is reported that the ex-Kalscr denies that his personal affairs are within the Jurisdiction of any Court.
