TERRACE END AND WEST END. OUTING MARRED BY RAIN. A special train of nineteen coaches left Palmerston North yesterday for Pllmmerton, carrying a happily expectant freight of 700 Terrace Enders and 400 from West End. The occasion was the annual outing of the two schools to Pllmmerton. The weather oh embarking. looked as if it would blow up fine, but a treacherous, southerly brought heavy rain half an hour before the convoy reached its destination. Consequently, activities had to be confined to the public hall and the railway carriages; with occasional visits by the 'most venturesome to the beach whenever the rain showed signs of moderating. Excellent arrangements were made by the picnic committee for the distrlbiv tlon of milk and hot water, and the picnic spirit was manifestly not quenched by the deluge. The com. mittee is especially grateful-to Mr J. J O’Shea, stationraaster, and all railway officials on the line, who suc : needed In making the arrangements run smoothly.
