, , . AUCKLAND Last Night In the Supreme Court, Joseph Sturge Redfern, on two charges of incest, was acquitted. The, defence jvas a general denial of the allegations and also that two daughters had given evidence because of hatred of their father. Evidence was also offered attacking the character of the girls. Joseph Roy O'Shea, aged 29. was found guilty of assaulting Leslie Titchener and robbing him of £2O. Finger print evidence by'Senior Sergeant Dinnle, of Wellington, played an tintportant part in the case. Sergeant Dinnle said he found fifteen points of similarity between fingerprints found on certain bottles and a certified print made by the middle-finger of accused’s right hand. There were thirty billion chances to one of the prints being from any other finger .than that of accused.

Mr Justice Stringer remarked that value of finger print evidence was now fairly established and In all civilised countries it was regarded as of the utmost possible value. Accused was remanded for sentence.
