ROMNEY MARSH BREEDERS

COUNCIL MEETING.

A meeting of the Council of the Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders’ Association was held on the Fellding A. and P. Show grounds on Wednesday, February 3rd., 1926, at 9.30 a.m„ Ihc following members being present: Messrs J. E. Hewitt (Mangamalre), A. E. Harding (Mangawhare), H. V. Fulton (Dunedin), Q. Donald and R. W. Matthews (Featherston), W. Perry and G. E. Alien (Masterton), K. Tanner (Longburn), P. Mungavin (Porlrua), J. Corps and J. Knight (Fending), and E. J, Wackrill (secretary). The President, Mr J. E. Hewitt, occupied the chair. Leave of absence was granted the following Councillors: —Messrs W. D. Hunt (Wellington), J. C. N. Grigg (Longbeach), J. W. Harding (Walpukurau), A. S. Murray (Balclutha), A. S. Holms (Waimahaka), E. E. Short and W. F. Jacob (Fellding). Mr A. H. Cockayne, Director of the Fields Division, Department of Agriculture, was present by invitation and gave a very instructive address on the scientific investigations now being made by the Department on the structure of wool. It was decided to write to the Director-General of Agriculture, conveying the thanks of the Council for the work being carried out on behalf of the wool-growers of this Dominion. It was resolved to donate a set of the flock books for the use of students at the Victoria University College, school of agriculture. The council approved of 21 transfers for registration in the flock book on the reports ot the inspectors appointed to examine and tattoo the sheep sold. The question of the formation of district branches of the association was fully discussed and a list ot representative breeders was draw.n up. those selected to be asked to convene meeting-’ for this purpose, in their respective districts. The secretary reported that since the last Council meeting the following registered stud rams had been exported:—22 to Punta Arenas, 20 to Falkland Islands, 3 to Buenos Aires. 3 to British East Africa and 1 each to United States of America, Canada and New South Wales.

The following Romney breeders were elected as members of the Association: —Mrs A. G. Hardy (Featherston), Messrs D. G. Grant (Danoevirke) C. Griffen (Toko), T. Moss (Eketahuna), J. W. F. Mcßeth (Thames I Line), C. K. McCutchan (Takora), R. McLeod (Martinbdvough), C. Tritt (Ashley Glen), E. R. Wells (Ngaere), and H. R. Wickham (Hulroa). The council decided to invite all the inspectors anad judges-appointed by the Association to a conference at the time of the annual meeting, which will be held during the Winter Show at Palmerston North in June next. The President and Mr R. Tanner were appointed delegates to a meeting convened by the President, Manawatu A. and P. Association for the purpose of recommending persons for appointment by the Governor-General to the Board of Agriculture for the next three years.
