DESTRUCTION OF RABBITS
OROUA BOARD'S EFFORTS,
■ Over seven hundred rabbits were shot during tbc month of January In th e Oroua Rabbit Board’s area, as against 600 despatched for the previous month. These figures were made available at the usual monthly meeting of the Board, held on Tuesday night, Ivhen there were present:—Trustees B. fa. Sandllands (chairman), Hogg and Rasmussen. The Board employs three inspectors, one of whom does nothing nut fumigating ' .whilst the other two have been concentrating on shooting down the pest. According to reports, the fumigation is having very satisfactory results and this method, taken with the shooting, should go a long way towards exterminating the pest. The skins collected from the rabbits shot are collected by th e inspectors and sent by j the Board to the merchants for sale. In connection with the shooting of rabbits, the Board resolved to request inspectors to include in their reports the number of rabbits shot by those persons assisting them. A letter was received from Mr. H. Pryce, of Kakarikl, stating that tho rabbits wer 0 on the increase in his property and asking the Board to advise as to lh e best method of dealing with them. The Board decided to inform Mr. Pryce that the inspectors had visited .his property since the receipt of the letter and when their report was received, the Board would be In a position to advise.
