BUNNYTHORPE
REPAIRING CEMETERY iROAD. The question cf repairing l the road fronting the Blinnythorpe cemetery Was raised at the Kairanga County Council metetlng yesterday, when a letter was received from the Board of Trustees, stating that a deputation would wait on the Council in respect to the matter. , The deputation comprised Messrs. J. W. Clevely and J. Scheldt,.,the latter pointing out that the cemetery fronted four chains of the road, the main entrance being half-way. A slope led up the approach of. the gates, while the road itself was fairly narrow with a deep water-table. The result was that traffic, particularly in the winter months, experienced' great difficulty In approaching and turning in front of the entrance. At the last meeting of the Board, it had been decided to apparoach the Council on the matter and see if the road could not be graded for a distance of at least i chains on either side of the gate and have the water-table re-constrjicted to suit the requirements In a mbre useful way. - Mr. Clevely supported his companion, adding that he thought the crown of the road was too high and If lowered, there would be plenty of spoil to fill In the wa.(er-tabl e if necessary. The cemetery was used ;npvonly by the settlers in Bunnythqrpe but by the surrounding district. Cr. C. Anderson pointed out that: some years ago, when the road had; been widened, a gully had to be filled'; in on the lower side of the cemetery, , the spoil having been taken from ' tiie wrong side, with the result that there was a deep water-table at the locality near the cemetery entrance. Onvthat occasion the cost of the work had been divided between the Kairanga and Oroua County Councils, and he thought that the latter body would b e quite prepared to contribute towards the cost of the proposed undertakings," provided that the work met with its approval. The work wanted was not a very big or costly undertaking and he would like to see the Council do something in the matter. " It was decided to leave it in the hands of the members for the riding and the engineer, with power to act.
