Villages Destroyed, Plantations Disappear COFFINS TORN OUT OF CEMETERIES [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] {Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Tuesday 10 p.m.) MADRID, January 18. Several persons were seriously injured and one hundred are homeless as the result of a hurricane breaking over the Canary Islands. According to messages from Las Palmas, a deluge of rain swelled the mountain torrents and bridges, roads and tramways wore swept away and several villages destroyed. The banana plantations were devastated, including one which was lately sold for ono million pesetas, and which was obliterated by the Inrunning sea. Las Palmas town is a desolate sight, a number of houses have collapsed ; whole streets have fallen in and even the cemeteries have been wrecked and th coffins torn out, SNOW IN SEASON. HEAVY PALL ON SOUTH COAST OF ENGLAND. LONDON, January 18. A snowstorm lasting 12 hours covered the south coast toj a depth of 12 to 20 inches.
