PALMERSTON NORTH RIVER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING OP TRUSTEES. The monthly meeting of trustees ol the Palmerston North River Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs F. J. Nathan, A. J. Graham, W. L. Fitzherbert, H. Batchelar, and J. Batch elar. The secretary was Instructed to write the Borough Council protesting against the deposit of rubbish on the beaches by private persons. The engineers (Messrs Jlckell and Gilmour) reported that prior to the holidays the whole of the timber at Hopcroft’s groyne (with the exception ot two piles) was removed to the river bank preparatory to re-construc-tion. Since the holidays no work Lad been undertaken, this owing to the illness of the foreman. During the fine weather a survey of the cut (opposite Fltzroy bend) had been made and plans prepared. It was found that to take the graded bottom down to low summer level would entail an average excavation of 5.5 feet deep for a length of 39.36 chains and total material to be excavated of 31,650 cubic yards which work was estimated to cost £1950. It was decided to call tenders for the excavation of the cut opposite Fltzroy bend to a depth of 3 feet.

The next meeting of the Board was fixed for February 15.
