THE GOLDEN ROSE
POPE’S GIFT TO A QUEEN. The Pope has bestowed on tha Queen of the Belgians the Golden Rose, the greatest gift possible to a Roman Catholic Qupen bn the pa>'t of the Holy Sea. The Pontiff has consigned the rose to the Nuncio at Brussels, who is commanded to present It -to the Queen bn the 25th anniversary of her marriage. The rose is a marvel of the goldsmith’s art, consisting: of 100 petal? elaborately engraved and placed In a silver vase, upon which Is inscribed the Pontiff’s dedication. The destowal of the rose is extremely rare. Pius X. did not grant one, but Plus XI. has already presented the rose to cha Queen of Spain. The Golden Rose Is a mimic plant of pure gold. It has leaves, buds and flowers, and Is Intended to typify by its gold, its odour, and- its balm the Godhead, the body, and . the soul of the Redeemer. In the central flower is a tiny receptacle in which Is contained a small palm leaf, blessed bjr the Pope.
