FOR HER OWN GOOD
POLICE TAKE CHARGE OF YOUNG GIRL. “This young girl has been two days in the town and yesterday th* Police took charge ol her for her own good.” These observations were made by Senior-Detective Quirke at the Magistrate’s Cqurt yesterday, when a Wanganui girl 16J years of age appeared before Messrs W. McKenzie and J. Mowlem J’s.P. on a charge of. being idle and disorderly. Accused was described as a domestic and her demeanour in Court led one to believe that she realised the shame she had brought upon herself. Senior-Detective Quirke further remarked that the girl’s mother had come down from Wanganui and would take her back home. In the circumstances, he would suggest that justice might be met if the case was adjourned for twelve months to give the girl an opportunity of showing that she knew how to conduct herself. The Bench adopted the suggestion and ordered the suppression of the girl’s name. Accused left the Court weeping.
